Sands China to regain market leadership in October

Sands China Ltd, a Macau casino operator controlled by Sheldon Adelson, retook the top spot in the monthly game gross sales (GGR) market in October. Venetian Macau's operators accounted for 23.7% of Macau's GGR last month, up from 21.8% in September, according to industry figures compiled by GGRasia.

Adelson said in parent Las Vegas Sands Corp's third-quarter earnings call that popular market gambling growth in Macau has made up for spending declines through a high roller in recent months. The company reported last month that adjusted real estate earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the third quarter of 2014 were $811.6 million, up 3.3% year-over-year.

SJM Holdings, founded by Stanley Hoheungsun, took the second-largest market share in October with 23.4% of the GGR. Galaxy Entertainment Group, which took the market lead for the first time in September, saw its share fall to 21.4% in October from 22.9% in the previous month.

Melco Crown Entertainment had a 14.3% market share in October, up from 12.6% in September. Winn Macao Ltd and MGM China Holdings Ltd recorded 8.9% and 8.2% of casino sales in October, respectively.

Macau's casino GGR fell 23.2% in October from a year earlier, the country's casino regulator said on Tuesday. Total revenue for all casino games in October came in at around 28.03 billion MOPs ($3.5 billion), down sharply from around 36.48 billion MOPs a year earlier.

The October GGR decline was the biggest monthly drop since the Macau government began publishing its current form of GGR data in 2005.

"The market now fully expects October to be the low point of the year, and year-over-year declines will need to improve sequentially over the next few months to meet expectations," UBS AG analysts said in a note Tuesday. "We continue to expect year-over-year declines to improve from October levels, but in practice not until the end of the first quarter or early second quarter of 2015." 바카라사이트 추천

On a month-on-month basis, the MOP reached 25.56 billion in September, up 9.6%.

Analysts at Union Gaming Research Macau now expect GGR figures for November and December to be difficult, similar to September's tally. "Currently, we expect a 16% and 24% decline within this year, respectively. This will bring the total GGR to MOP355 billion ($44.4 billion) in 2014 down 2%," the research house said.

"With December now expected to be down 24% year-over-year, further disruption to the VIP segment is expected due to President Xi Jinping's visit to Macau as part of the 15th anniversary celebration of the return to China," Union Gaming added.
